The aim of this presentation is to highlight and to present different aspects of social welfare system for children and youth with developmental disabilities in Croatia from 1919 until 1992. The presentation is going to be presented from social work perspective. The topics that are going to be presented include cultural context of social welfare system for children and youth with developmental disabilities, Croatian society’s attitudes in mentioned period towards children and youth with developmental disabilities, two dominant models of disability within Croatian society, different knowledge about formal support system and legal basis of it that determined social welfare system, some specific aspects of quality of life and social status of children and youth with developmental disabilities’ families quality of life, as well as some other aspects of formal support system that had impact of social welfare system for children and youth with developmental disabilities in Croatia during mentioned period. This presentation also aims to critically highlight the main characteristics of social welfare system for children and youth with developmental disabilities in Croatia from 1919 until 1992, as well as to provide answer on what ways historical and cultural background has influenced the social welfare system for children and youth with developmental disabilities in Croatia nowadays.
