Opisan je sprejem papeževe gregorijanske reforme koledarja v protestantskih deželah in predvsem na Kranjskem. Maestlinov odpor do papeževega in Claviusovega predloga je bil povezan s strahom protestantskih astronomov pred rimsko kritiko astrologije in Kopernikovih novosti, saj je bilo pisanje horoskopov vsakdanji kruh številnih tedanjih astronomov. V nasprotni tabor spada sprejem koledarske reforme ljubljanskega rektorja Frischlina, ostrega kritika astrologije s Kopernikom vred. Nasprotja med protestantoma Maestlinom in njegovim nekdanjim profesorjem Frischlinom je zaostrilo njuno potegovanje za isto astronomsko katedro na univerzi Tübingen. O ostrih spopadih okoli novega koledarja pričajo številne knjige o gregorijanski reformi v tedanjih kranjskih knjižnicah, med njimi dva izvoda Claviusovih obramb pred Maestlinovimi kritikami.

      • The reception of Gregorian Calendar Reform at Protestant Lands with Carniola included was described. Maestlin’s antipathy of Pope and Clavius’ reform proposition was connected with the Protestant astronomers’ fear of Roman critique of astrology and Copernican innovations, because the horoscopes gave everyday bread to many astronomers. The opposite party got strong support with the standpoints of Ljubljana rector Frischlin with his sharp critique of Copernicus included. The Protestant Maestlin versus Frischlin quarrel originated at their mutual competition for the same astronomy chair at Tübingen University. The opinions of Carniolans were mirrored at their libraries containing several important pieces of calendar quarrels, among them two important Clavius’ defences of the new calendar.
