The author considers the German population between the Worid Wars I and II in the part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia encompassing the districts of Dravograd, Slovenj Gradec (Šaleška valley excluded), the city of Maribor, Maribor on the right bank and Maribor on the left bank, Ptuj and Ljutomer After World War I. this region was vigorously slovenised. whereas in the thirties — particularly after the annexation of Austria by the NAZI Reich — a renewed planned germanisation came about. It achieved its peak in the genocidal policy of the NAZI occupier towards Slovenians in the years of World War II. The stance of the occupier towards Slovenians during that period meant fateful incisions in the relations between those belonging to the two nationalities, one making impossible a constructive joint life after the War.
