We can follow the history of the manorial estate of Slovenj Gradec during
the Middle-Ages since the end of the 11th century. It formed itself as a
central one in the specific region of Slovenj Gradec, which was being comprehended as a constituent part of Styria only in the 15th century. The
Windischgrätz have been named after it. They came there at the beginning
of the 13th century, and after half a century they had already more significance
elsewhere. Between 1251 and 1334 we repeatedly come across the mint
of silver coins at Slovenj Gradec in the sources. In the urborium of the
manorial estete (about the year 1500) 118 subjected families and 69 wastes
were registered. In the middle of the 18th century there lived in general 43
artisan's families in the town.
