The transitional position of the valley attracted people to the hilly land of Podsreda from the neolithic era. From the 12th century till the middle of the 15th century was the medium sized manorial estate of Podsreda the feud of the bishops of Krka, after this about 130 years the property of the Habsburg family. From the end of the 16th century it was the property of than noble feudal families. In the middle of the 14th century developed a small market-town under the castle, and in the second half of the 16th century two brickworks, a lime-pit and a custom-house sprang up there. Towards the end of the 16th century the number of Croatian population increased on the Slovene side of the Sotla.
