The article deals with the building development of 37 market towns and
cities of Slovenian Styria in the nineteenth century, it adds to those
settlements 2 Carinthian and 2 market towns from Prekmurje and also 33
settlements that belong here not by their position but because of their
development; they have namely, surpassed the rural conception of village
and they have assumed the urban characteristics either in their around
organisation, communal arragement or their architectural image. Among
above mentioned settlements there are nevertheless, few of them that
have created the conditions for their own modern development. It concerns
the towns: Celje, Maribor, (Ptuj), Hrastnik, Šoštani, Trbovlje Velenje,
Ravne and Murska Sobota.
