According to archive sources, two settlements existed in the Podlipa valley, Tunjica and Podlipa. They were merged into the village Podlipa which then became the seat of the parish at St. Brice church. Residents from lower Smrečje of Šentjošt parish and residents of Rovte on the western side of the valley had also visited the Podlipa church and the village for other errands, and their children preferred to visit the Podlipa school from mid-19th century onwards due to its vicinity. Agriculture was the main activity in the valley.
