The following thesis deals with Slovenian village of Črni Vrh during the First World War. At the beginning of war most men who were eligible for service were mobilized. The state imposed strict censorship and soon began to control the economic activities of the population. The consumption of food was restricted; people were obliged to sell their goods to the government. The authorities also confiscated raw materials which were needed by the arms industry. The village became an important military center after Italy declared war on Austria-Hungary. Many military buildings and a military railroad were built. Charities and the Church tried to help the population by organizing many charitable drives. The army retreated from Črni Vrh after the Austro-Hungarian victory at Caporetto in October 1917.
